Published in The Peep Diaries

Really great things have happened to me since I was interviewed by Hal Niedzviecki! I had no idea that agreeing to do that interview would open doors for me and make me a bit of a celebrity! He interviewed me first for his blog called the Peep Diaries-Hal's blog. My interview with her went so well that I was contacted by Walrus Magazine at the beginning of the year. We were published in that magazine and that was such an amazing feeling!

We were contacted by a few people who were doing a blogging documentary and wanted us to be in it. The director of it came to visit us back in June and we had agreed to do the documentary. We had to decline the offer unfortunately. We would have to show our faces and we were both too afraid to take the risk. It also happened just after my Dad passed away and I couldn't deal with it. It really worried me about showing our faces. I share a lot of myself but I also try to be discreet. I can't help but worry sometimes that someone we know (my sister or brother, co-workers of Master or our vanilla friends) are going to see this blog sometime. The bigger this blog becomes, the bigger the risk.

I got a phone call this morning from a woman at the Canadian Press. She wanted to interview me about Hal's book and my thoughts on the Peep Culture. It was really exciting to talk to her! It's not everyday that the Canadian Press calls your home and wants to interview you about your blog! Very cool!! She mentioned that Hal's book was out and I was in the book. I was very curious to read the book as soon as I heard that I was in it!

I went to Metrotown today to go shopping with Leia. We spent the whole afternoon there shopping which was so much fun! I went to Chapters and picked up a copy of Hal's book called The Peep Diaries by Hal Niedzviecki. We are mentioned in chapter 2!! My head started to spin which I saw my name in the book! It was one thing to see it in a magazine...but a BOOK!! Whoa!! I literally had to sit down because I had the spins. We are published in a book! You can read all about us in the The Peep Diaries!

I read all the way to chapter 4. It's a really great book!! I recommend it to everyone! I don't do many book reviews but I am going to give this book a great review! I loved his thoughts about blogging and reading about his thoughts on the peep culture.

I noticed that The Peep Diaries made Oprah's list of "25 Books you can't put down"!

It says:

The summer reading list appears in the July edition of the O Magazine and on the talk-show's website!!

Niedzviecki's book The Peep Diaries: How We're Learning to Love Watching Ourselves and Our Neighbours examines the new culture being created by twitter, blogs and other social media.

In it, he argues that we are changing the definition of privacy and renegotiating values we once took for granted with these new forms of electronic media.

Cathleen Medwick describes the book on Oprah's site: "'You need to know. You need to be known.' That is the compulsion fueling what cultural critic Hal Niedzviecki calls 'peep culture, the bastard love child of gossip' — our mass addiction to twittering, tweeting, snooping, spying, blogging, gawking at reality TV and YouTube, spilling our secrets on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Ping… the list goes on."

....

May the force be with you all!!

What a great, thought provoking, insightful book. The Peep Diaries is a great book to be a part of. What an honor. Thank you so much, Hal. I skimmed it and I can't wait to read it now. I get to read it next, padme.
