Part 2 - The Calgary tower and an amazing sunset

I wrote about part 1 of our trip and our trip to Banff and the Rocky Mountains. This post is about Calgary and our fun adventures there. It had been a long day and we got into the car and headed into Calgary. It was very country like with all the cows and open fields. I really love visiting Calgary and always have a good time there. Skywalker had never been to calgary before so this was his first time there. Master grew up there and is an Alberta boy at heart. He really loved being back there. He even drove us around his old neighborhood and places he hung out as a kid. Really cool!

Leia had not been to Calgary since she was 3. She remarked about the "cute cowboys" around as it was stampede time and everyone was dressed up for it. The city felt alive with stampede fever. The air felt a bit electric almost. A storm passed through which gave us a good lightening show. I was glad to check into the Ramada there which is a very nice hotel. We were able to go for a dip in the pool and relax in the hot tub before heading back to our suite to relax.

I suddenly had a really cool idea. I wanted to show the kids an Alberta sunset and capture a really nice family memory with them. We drove into town and went up the Calgary tower to watch a sunset with them. I can cross something off my bucket list:

#74 -Go up the Calgary Tower again

The tower is so neat. I have not been up it in years. There was a piece of glass which you could stand on and look through which was really freaky! I had a hard time letting go of the block wall beside it because it looked like I might fall through. Both of the kids thought that was pretty neat.

You could see Stampede from the tower which was beautifully lit up. The sky looked absolutely amazing. I've never seen a sunset like that before. It was romantic and really peaceful. Even the kids were getting along great and we all had some nice family moments as well as more private ones while we kissed and cuddled close. Some fireworks went off as we watched the sunset. Stampede looked soooo amazing from the tower.

I spent a lot of time just watching the different stuff happening there from the calgary tower. It took a while for the sun to set as the sky changed different colors from purple to pink and blue. The city lights came on and there was so much energy radiating from it with the stampede happening.

It was one of those moments that I'll never forget how it felt. I felt so happy and close to my family and we were all really enjoying our holidays. We walked around a bit downtown afterwords but most places were closed. Our feet were hurting and we were tired from all the stuff we had done during the day. We had squeezed Banff and Calgary all into one day. We thought about going to stampede but were not able to make it. Oh well! Maybe next time. :)

We picked up some McDonald's and came back to our hotel room to hang out. Master and I shared some alcoholic beverages while the kids enjoyed their fries. We all shared a few laughs and nice family moments together before heading to bed. It was a really great day on our family trip.

I'll share part 3 in my next blog post and our adventures in Drumheller!

May the force be with you all!!

Thanks for bring back these spontaneous, magical moments of the sunset from the Calgary tower. Our Calgary visit was indeed very special to Me, and was wonderful to see our whole family so happy. Thanks for a beautiful retelling of this part of our family vacation. Memories and photos will live on forever. And that glass floor in the Calgary tower was freaky!
